Nutrition and total parenteral nutrition (TPN)

In cases where patients can no longer ingest normal food due to certain diseases, different nutrition systems can be applied. In this context, a distinction is made between enteral (tube feeding) and parenteral (venous) nutrition. Depending on the course of the disease, both forms of nutrition can be combined. The difference between the two approaches is the involvement of the intestines. While the intestines are used in enteral nutrition, in parenteral nutrition the nutrients are supplied via the veins.

Depending on which types of nutrients are supplied to the patient through parenteral nutrition, there is still a distinction between partial and total parenteral nutrition. While partial parental nutrition only supplements the oral diet with dextrose and amino acid solutions, total parental nutrition provides all the nutrients the body needs daily. For this purpose, the infusion solution also must contain lipids. Vitamins can be injected into the contents of the bag.

To package these products safely, films must meet certain requirements. An important point is that pharmaceutical products can be sterilized using heating steam at 121 ° C, as well as specific barrier properties (oxygen, UV, lipids, etc.).

All PolyCine films are PVC-free and thus avoid contamination of the bag contents by diffusing plasticizers.

Production in the clean room guarantees the lowest possible particle entry in terms of size and number.

Many solutions do not have a long shelf life in their dosage form. To increase the shelf life and still be able to guarantee simple application, multi-chamber bags with peelable seams are used.

Even if the contents of the bag require special barrier properties (e.g., oxygen, CO2, water vapour barrier), PolyCine films can be customized for your product and packaging requirements.

PolyCine products are used in various applications

  • Biopharmaceuticals, Cell Cultures

    Biopharmaceuticals, Cell Cultures

Biopharmaceuticals are complex drugs made from living cells or organisms using the most advanced techniques and procedures. PolyCine film can be used for manufacturing bags that are used during manufacturing processes or for storing biopharmaceuticals and cell cultures.

  • Self-Injection Systems / Auto-Injectors / Medical Devices

    Self-Injection Systems / Auto-Injectors / Medical Devices

An auto-injector can be used for delivering liquid medication to patients in precisely specified doses. No longer restricted to emergency medication, today, these products are routinely applied. Since injections bypass the gastrointestinal tract, active ingredients that cannot be administered in tablet form can also be safely dosed at home.

  • Haemodialysis

    Haemodialysis

Haemodialysis is also known as "blood purification". In this process, blood is cleaned with the aid of a dialyzer, in which the blood flows along a thin membrane and, by diffusion, delivers all the toxins into a highly pure water-salt solution.

  • Infusion therapy

    Infusion therapy

Due to their high pharmaceutical compatibility and use without external ventilation, polypropylene (PP) based bags made of PolyCine film and tubes can be used in a wide range of applications.

  • Continuous Ambulatory Peritoneal Dialysis (CAPD)

    Continuous Ambulatory Peritoneal Dialysis (CAPD)

For peritoneal dialysis via CAPD bag, the peritoneum is used as a filter for blood purification. The dialysate (usually highly concentrated glucose) from the non-PVC bag system is introduced into the free abdominal cavity via a CAPD catheter that has grown into the abdominal wall.

  • Veterinary / animal health

    Veterinary / animal health

PolyCine film is also used in the production of infusion bags for animal health. Areas of application include bags for intravenous use containing isotonic sodium chloride or Ringer's solution, which can be augmented by other drugs (e.g., painkillers).
