For peritoneal dialysis via CAPD bag, the peritoneum is used as a filter for blood purification. The dialysate (usually highly concentrated glucose) from the non-PVC bag system is introduced into the free abdominal cavity via a CAPD catheter that has grown into the abdominal wall. By diffusion, the dialysate is augmented with toxins from the blood vessels in the peritoneum. After a few hours within the body, the used dialysate is drained through the catheter. New dialysis solution is then introduced. This process usually takes place several times a day. Patients receive training on performing dialysate change, and as soon as they feel safe using it, they can carry out the therapy independently and without using a machine. A great advantage of continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD) is that blood purification does not take place just on a few days of the week; thus the patient's well-being can be increased. The prerequisites for this are that the patient assumes a high degree of personal responsibility and that physical and hygienic conditions are met. In addition, the independence of the patient is guaranteed.
The film and tube materials used must also withstand particularly high sterilization temperatures and sterilization times. In addition, the lowest possible particle level and low extractables / leachables are particularly important for permanent use and treatment of patients.
PolyCine materials meet the highest quality standards and can be used for the CAPD solution bag, the drainage bag and the hose systems.
Multi-chamber bags/double-chamber bags, made of PP-based PolyCine APP film and PolyCine non-PVC filling hoses, are also used in this sector.
Patients whose daily routine would be excessively restricted by a CAPD application can also be treated by automatic peritoneal dialysis (APD).
With this method too, peritoneal dialysis is carried out by patients themselves at home, in this case however using an automatic overnight process with the help of a machine (cycler). This nightly dialysis takes place seven times a week. The blood purification process is the same as with CAPD application. The cycler is adjusted in a dialysis centre to the special needs of the patients, so that the duration, number of changes and required volume of dialysis fluid can be determined.
The cycler is equipped with the solution bags before the patient goes to sleep. The automatic changes of the dialysis fluid then took place during sleep. The tubes are long enough to give the patient a certain amount of freedom of movement at night. The machine works very quietly, so that sleep is not disturbed by noise. At the end, fresh dialysis solution is fed into the abdominal cavity and remains there for the day until the next evening.
Since the APD is just another form of the CAPD, PolyCine film can also be used for this application area.
Intermittent peritoneal dialysis (IPD) is often used with elderly or critically ill patients who, due to their state of health, cannot be treated by hemodialysis and are unable to perform APD independently at home.
This treatment takes place at a dialysis centre or nursing home and is carried out three times a week by trained staff under aseptic conditions over a period of 8-10 hours. In contrast to APD, there is usually no dialysis fluid left in the abdominal cavity outside of the dialysis time.
Bags made from PolyCine film are also suitable for this application.
Biopharmaceuticals are complex drugs made from living cells or organisms using the most advanced techniques and procedures. PolyCine film can be used for manufacturing bags that are used during manufacturing processes or for storing biopharmaceuticals and cell cultures.
An auto-injector can be used for delivering liquid medication to patients in precisely specified doses. No longer restricted to emergency medication, today, these products are routinely applied. Since injections bypass the gastrointestinal tract, active ingredients that cannot be administered in tablet form can also be safely dosed at home.
Haemodialysis is also known as "blood purification". In this process, blood is cleaned with the aid of a dialyzer, in which the blood flows along a thin membrane and, by diffusion, delivers all the toxins into a highly pure water-salt solution.
Due to their high pharmaceutical compatibility and use without external ventilation, polypropylene (PP) based bags made of PolyCine film and tubes can be used in a wide range of applications.
In cases where patients can no longer ingest normal food due to certain diseases, different nutrition systems can be applied. In this context, a distinction is made between enteral (tube feeding) and parenteral (venous) nutrition. Depending on the course of the disease, both forms of nutrition can be combined.
PolyCine film is also used in the production of infusion bags for animal health. Areas of application include bags for intravenous use containing isotonic sodium chloride or Ringer's solution, which can be augmented by other drugs (e.g., painkillers).

APP107 IV-bag Filling Tubes are Multilayer Polypropylene based, for TPN, Infusion, and Dialysis solution bags.
The APP-200 is a polypropylen based, special anti-blocking film that is suitable for various applications as for instance CAPD drainage bags, urological collection systems or wound drainage devices.
PolyCine also offers a polypropylen based medical compound for ports. The APP-147 compound is designed to be used in combination with APP film and tubing. It is suitable for the injection molding process.
PolyCine's APP overwrap films are designed for the protection and overwrapping of sterile solution bags.
For optimum performance in hot-stamping foil technology we recommend this high-grade product. It is widely used in the pharmaceutical industry and produces superior prints.
PolyCine’s polypropylen based APP-series provides high-quality films and tubes for parenteral nutrition. Here, the requirements for the packaging depend mostly on the type of solution and the method of sterilization.
The flexible IV bag provides many advantages compared to the common glass bottle or blow molded plastic container. It is light, easy to handle, carry and store and – most important – collapsible which makes air vents redundant.
